Opportunity Information Executive Medical Director for Oncology,
Sutter Health East Bay Market Sutter East Bay Medical Group is
seeking an experienced, innovative, and collaborative medical
oncologist to lead the Sutter East Bay Comprehensive Cancer
program. The Sutter Health East Bay Market is one of six market
areas for Sutter Health, an integrated healthcare network
headquartered in Sacramento, CA. Sutter will open a brand-new state
of the art comprehensive cancer center in Oakland in the spring of
2026 which will be co-branded with an NCI designated academic
medical center. In advance of the 2026 Oakland cancer center
opening, other key East Bay oncology locations will be opened as
premier oncology centers. We are seeking an Executive Medical
Director for Oncology. This Executive Medical Director will
collaborate with the operational Oncology Service Line Executive in
a dyad partnership to build oncology clinical teams and programs.
Sutter Health is dedicated to providing equitable care to our

and cares for patients at twenty integrated cancer centers. Our
physician network is comprised of more than two hundred medical and
radiation oncology clinicians working together to create programs
of distinction in many clinical areas. As we expand cancer care in
the east bay, we will also expand the clinical trials available to
our patients which currently number more than 150 across our
network. While Sutter Health already has centers of excellence in
neuro-oncology, hematologic malignancy, and cellular therapies, the
Executive Medical Director will guide in the development of
additional programs of distinction in the east bay. Founded in
2005, Sutter East Bay Medical Group (SEBMG) is a rapidly growing
multi-specialty medical group whose more than 400 clinicians
provide care in clinics and hospitals in the San Francisco East Bay
Area. SEBMG is affiliated with the Sutter East Bay Medical
Foundation (SEBMF), a not-for-profit health care organization
providing operational and administrative support to the group. The
ideal candidate for Executive Medical Director is an innovative
leader in the field of cancer care. We are specifically seeking
someone who has demonstrated clinical expertise combined with
proven research qualifications. The Executive Medical Director will
partner with medical group, hospital, and system leaders and will
also function as a dyad partner to the operational oncology service
line executive to implement our comprehensive cancer care strategy.
Because the Executive Medical Director will be shaping and
overseeing strategy, quality, and programmatic development, they
must be a visionary physician who is able to optimize patient
access and quality while leveraging best practices and technology.
A candidate who possesses expertise in change management is ideal.
The position requires an individual who is highly relational,
confident in their abilities, and able to build new programs and
services. We are seeking individuals who have experience running
oncology services, ideally in a community setting, with some
background in academic medicine. This individual will lead the
strategic growth planning and determine what future resources are
needed to support growth in the next 10 years. The Executive
Medical Director will be expected to spend one half of their time
providing clinical care and one half of their time developing
strategy and enhancing operations for oncology in the East Bay
Market. Qualifications: MD, MD/PhD, DO or equivalent degree(s) are
required with fellowship training in medical oncology Must be board
certified and eligible for a California medical license Must have
record of achievement in both leadership and clinical care
Location: Berkeley/Oakland Position Details: 1.0 FTE is .5 admin/.5
clinical. Supports staff includes other clinicians, MA support,
LVN, RN, advice nurses, Dyad partner in Executive Service Line,
social work, nutrition, acupuncture, scheduler, genetic counselor.
In clinic, there is 1:1 RN for patients and 1:1 MA and nurse
navigation for each cancer patient Shared call amongst 6
oncologists and Alta Bates and Summit; 2 blocks for call Benefits
